2023 Winter League Rules & Fixtures

  • The league will start on 20th January 2023.
  • Teams will consist of 4 players, two Men and two Women. However, except in Division 1 (where the ratio must be adhered to), where it is not possible for a team to field in these ratios additional Men or Women may be involved providing that they are not of a higher level than those they have replaced. The order of play will be Mens and Womens doubles in Round 1, followed by 2 Mixed Doubles in order of playing strength.
  • Matches will be played indoors on Friday evenings from 7pm until 10pm Wavertree Tennis Centre (WTC) and Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 4pm until 700pm at Widnes Tennis Academy (WTA.)
  • Tennis Liverpool (TL) will be the main point of contacts for any questions, queries, and complaints regarding the winter league. The clubs should not contact clubs or  the venues directly. The League Referee will be David Simms 07900 955155 tenniscollege@aol.com
  • TL will organise the fixture programme and issue details to the participating clubs, using the LTA online league planner. Clubs should expect to have at least one match scheduled at Widnes and the remainder at Wavertree depending on their location.
  • The normal TL 'rules of engagement' for matches will be invoked for the league. Games will consist of two sets with a match tie break (up to 10 by two clear points) in the event of the match ending one set each.
  • Teams will score 1 point for each set won (including match tiebreaks)

Court Hire Payments
  • The player participation fee will be the same regardless of which venue is used and is to cover the majority of cost of indoor court hire. This is set at £10 per player per match. TL is subsidising the shortfall between match fees and court costs.
  • Individual clubs are responsible for the collection of match fees.
  • TL will invoice the participating clubs in advance of the league’s beginning for the season’s fees.
  • TL will be responsible for the payment of the WTC and WTA invoices.
  • No monies will be payable for cancelled courts providing evidence of cancellation by the club involved can be provided showing a minimum of 48 hours notice to both WTC, WTA and their opponents. If this cannot be provided the full cost of hire must be paid

Match Organisation
  • The captains of both teams will provide one tube of match balls each for each fixture.
  • All players must be BTM members for online results inputting.
  • The winning captain will submit the scores via online entry, as per the summer league, within 72 hours of completion of the match. The result is to be confirmed by the opponents.
  • Fixtures must be played on the dates indicated.
  • All club complaints will be dealt with by the TL Match Regulations Sub Committee.
Happy Tennis everyone!
